Youth Action Council-YAC
The Knoxville/Knox County Youth Action Council-A Voice for Youth is a collaborative partnership between the United Way of Greater Knoxville, the Knox County Mayor's Office and the City of Knoxville Mayor's Office.

The YAC provides a representative body of teens charged with ensuring that the opinions and concerns of their peers are voiced and that youth have opportunities for community engagement.

Some of the projects of the 2006-2007 Youth Action Council include:

  1. Mobilizing students, parents and teachers to raise awareness of the funding needs of Knox County Schools in order to encourage state and local officials to make education their highest priority.

  2. Host a Youth Summit to engage over 300 teenagers in community problem solving and facilitate interaction between local public officials and youth.

  3. Conduct student fundraising campaigns in each school to support youth programs in Knox County.

The Youth Summit is an event that empowers youth to use their voice and is coordinated annually by teens, for teens. You can read more about plans for the 2007 Knoxville Youth Summit, March 31st at Emerald Youth Foundation, 1718 N. Central Street.

In 2006 YAC members conducted a survey of over 200 teens in Knox County to find out more about their opinions regarding school funding issues in our state.  Read more about the results of the
