Ways to Give
Corporate Gifts
Corporate giving is an important part of the support base for United Way of Greater Knoxville. Companies making gifts from their corporate profits account for almost 30 percent of the annual support to United Way of Greater Knoxville.
Employers providing an annual employee campaign for their workforce provide almost 60 percent of the annual campaign. When combined, the workplace is responsible for 89.1 percent of the annual giving.
It all starts with the corporate gift and access to the workplace. In 2004, more than $10.3 million came from corporate and employee giving.
Individual Gifts
All gifts are important to United Way. The Greater Knoxville community is lucky to have individuals supporting United Way independent of the workplace.
Often, individuals have supported United Way through their active years in the workforce. Upon retirement they continue to support United Way through a direct gift to the organization.
Other individuals participate through the retiree organization with a former employee. Often professionals and independent business men and women choose to support United Way through a direct gift. These gifts combine to represent 8.4 percent of the annual campaign based on 2008 giving representing almost $1 million in giving.
As you can see from the breakdown of the annual giving stream, all gifts are important. As each community-minded member of our society steps up and participates at the level they feel comfortable, we collectively make a difference in our community's health and quality of life. And, at the end of the day, that's what matters.
Workplace Gifts
Workplace giving continues to be the single largest area of support to the annual United Way and the programs and services supported through a United Way gift.
In 2010, almost 60 percent of the campaign was a result of employees supporting their employer's workplace campaign.
Whether they chose to use a payroll giving option, a credit card option, a one-time gift option or wanted United Way to invoice them for their pledge, employees through the workplace provided more than $6.9 million in support to their community through participation in United Way.
