a sincere desire for rehabilitation

Armed Forces and International Services
This program provides worldwide emergency communications
to members of the armed forces and their families. The
program also provides for counseling and financial assistance
to military families and veterans.
Community Volunteer Services
A program which recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers
in a provision of basic Red Cross services, including
volunteers at school health clinics, nursing homes,
VA hospitals, Lakeshore Mental Health Institute, and
Operation Health Check.
Disaster Services
A program that provides disaster relief to the victims
of emergencies, including the victims of single-family
fires, floods, and other disasters in the community.
A family suffering such loss is offered counseling and
assistance in planning recovery. Shelter is provided
either in mass shelter during large-scale disasters,
or in motel rooms for single-family incidents.
Health and Nursing Services
This program recruits and trains area nurses to serve
as Red Cross disaster health service volunteers. Nurses
from East Tennessee are trained in preparation for services
on local disasters. Certified Nursing Assistants are
trained for employment in community facilities.
Safety Services
This program provides health and safety training to
local businesses, the health care community, and the
public. It provides first aid stations at University
of Tennessee football games, the Tennessee Valley Fair,
the Civic Coliseum, and other large public events. Instructors
teach CPR, first aid, aquatics, and other lifesaving
skills.
Youth Services
A program providing personal growth and leadership development
opportunities to youth through training and volunteering
in Red Cross activities and special events.

An accredited summer camp operating from 7:30 a.m. to

This program provides transitional housing for the elderly

Connections
A program that provides crisis intervention and family

Continuum for Permanency Services
This program provides a wide range of services from
intensive residential care to in-home services that
help families stay together. Additional services such
as an accredited school, nursing and psychological care
are also provided. Children work through this continued
transitioning to less restrictive environments until
the ultimate goal of reunification with family, family
foster care, or independent living is achieved.
Family Crisis Center
This program provides an emergency shelter for abused
women ages 18 and older, with or without children. In
addition to shelter, they receive treatment and case
management services.
Family Life Enrichment
This program provides assistance to individuals and/or
families concerning such issues as marriage, divorce,
family violence, sexual abuse, parent-child problems,
dealing with grief, and other areas.
Great Starts
A residential or day treatment program that provides
services for drug-exposed, HIV positive and/or medically
fragile infants up to three years of age and their pregnant
or postpartum mothers. This program was established
to help prevent abandonment of infants and maintain
family unity.
Kids on the Block
An educational preventive program using childlike puppets.
The program provides information to children about physical
and sexual abuse, drug abuse, prevention of teenage
pregnancy, living with disabilities, AIDS, and organ
and tissue donation.
Managing Emotions Nonviolently
This program provides group counseling for men who have
been referred by the courts for spousal and/or family
abuse.
Partners and Families First
This is an interactive case management approach to provide
linkage, continuous support, and follow-up for parents.
The goal of the program is to prevent child abuse and
neglect by providing parenting education and child development
classes and other supportive services.
PASAAC/ Sex Abuse Counseling
This program assists individuals and families affected
by sexual abuse. The program helps them to cope with
the trauma and understand their individual and family
dynamics so they can lead personally satisfying, socially
useful lives and prevent further occurrences of abuse.
PleasanTree Apartments
A residential program that assists the homeless, mentally
ill, and single-parent families and their children so
they can learn to function independently in the community.
Respond
An emergency response team providing 24-hour crisis
intervention services to children suffering from neglect
and/or abuse from substance abusing parents. The purpose
is to prevent further child abuse and neglect, prevent
removal of the children from the home, and to address
the substance abuse problem with the parents.
Runaway Shelter and Project Safe Place
An emergency shelter for runaway and homeless youth.
The shelter provides services 24-hours a day, 365-days
a year. Services are available to youth ages 11-18.
Therapy Center
A licensed outpatient mental health program that provides
psychotherapy for individual and family emotional problems.
Services are provided for people of all ages and income
levels.
Transitional Living
This program offers long-term residential and outreach
services for youth who currently do not have a safe,
viable living situation or who are at imminent risk
of becoming homeless. Services include case management,
counseling, life skills training, career counseling,
and liaison services with a variety of community agencies.

This program provides individualized training to students
with disabilities who have a desire to become a Nurse's
Assistant. The HOP program provides a Caregiver class
that prepares individuals for positions in the daycare
profession and prepares them to move into the CNA program.
Occupational Skills Training
This program trains students on a variety of office
systems (e.g. Windows, Microsoft Office, Internet) and
prepares them for employment. The Clerical Skills Training
program works with students to increase their typing
speed and accuracy in order to enter the next level
SPACE program.
Placement
This program assists individuals in identifying, obtaining
and/or maintaining employment commensurate with their
vocational, social, psychological, and mental needs
and abilities. In addition, services are available to
employers to facilitate the successful employment of

Work Adjustment
This program is designed to establish appropriate social
behaviors and work habits necessary for success in competitive
employment. A specific adjustment plan is developed

This service provides clothing to children enrolled
in the Knox County Schools who do not have the resources
to purchase needed items. Each child is provided two
pairs of new jeans, new socks and underwear, and a new

Students receive enough clothing to wear for at least
five school days. Coats are provided if needed and available.

A program providing a variety of services to victims

Day Resource Center
This program is a downtown center for people who are
homeless, open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It
provides basic necessities, showers, laundry facilities,
meals, and counseling on a walk-in basis. The program
also offers health classes, employment counseling, mental
health counseling, and referrals, as well as a motivational
support group for men and women on a scheduled basis.

After School Program
A program providing after school enrichment focusing
on education, life skills, character building, and recreation
to at-risk youth in the first through fifth grades.
Area children and youth are served from 2:30 to 6:00
p.m. daily.
Senior Citizens
This service provides a variety of senior citizen programs
which include a well-balanced meal and transportation
to and from the Center on a weekly basis.
Summer Program
A summer day camp for elementary school-aged children
which focuses on supervised recreational activities.
Academic enrichment, community service, cooking, fitness,
golf, water skiing, and residential camping are only
a few of the opportunities offered to participants in
this program, which runs for eight weeks, Monday through
Friday, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Breakfast, lunch
and snacks are served daily.

After School Childcare
A service providing after school childcare for children
in grades K-5 attending Knox County Schools.
Aquatics Programs-in collaboration with YWCA
A program offering swimming instruction for preschool
and school-age children. Other swimming programs include
adult instruction, adult exercises and arthritic programs
for senior citizens, handicapped programs, recreational
swims, and swim teams.
Camping Programs
The day camping program provides summer childcare for
children ages 4-15.
Community and Family Membership
The membership program of the YMCA is a facility-based
program consisting of four facilities: the East Side,
West Side, North Side, and the YMCA HealthWorks Center.
Youth Programs
A facility-based program consisting of youth sports
leagues, gymnastics, martial arts, dance, tennis, various
overnights at the YMCA, and tutoring.

Health and Fitness-in collaboration with YMCA
A program offering swim classes and activities for all
age groups that include therapeutic services for people
with handicaps, arthritis, etc. It includes classes
in arts, crafts, karate, stress and weight management,
computer skills, homemaking, career planning, and self-confidence.
Phyllis Wheatley Branch
The Phyllis Wheatley Branch provides cultural, educational,
recreational, and personal development programs to residents
of the East Knoxville area.
Residential Program
This service provides residence for women who are in
transitional situations brought about after personal
traumas such as divorce, the death of spouse, or escape
from abuse from a spouse or family member.
Victim Advocacy Program
The program provides direct services to victims of domestic
violence and elder abuse. These services include crisis
intervention, intake and needs assessment, assistance
in completing court documents, preparation of victims
for court appearances, accompaniment to court, and referral
to other community agencies. This program also includes
community education presentations and training sessions
for local police officers and attorneys.
Youth Department
This service provides a Y-Teen program for girls to
gain valuable leadership skills and self-esteem through
community service and leadership roles. Summer Day Care
offers working parents an inexpensive alternative for
their children during the summer. Boys and girls, ages
6-14, are served through this program.
