United Way has raised $11,812,851 surpassing our $11.7 million goal.

“We are optimistic about this year’s campaign,” Bert Bertelkamp, 2005 campaign chairman said. “Even though, with the recent hurricanes, there has been a lot asked of the people in our community, Knoxville has continued time after time to answer the call. It makes me proud to think I live in a generous community that cares about its neighbors.

We are in the home stretch of our campaign, and I feel like we can make our goal if two things happen. First, if you have made a gift in the past, please don’t wait any longer to make your contribution this year. We are really counting on those past donors to help us out again. Second, if you have never made a gift to United Way, join me in supporting what I believe is the single most important thing we can do to keep Knoxville strong in ’06.”

What would happen if United Way doesn’t make this year’s goal?

-What if American Red Cross hadn’t been prepared to handle over 10,000 evacuees?

-With the TennCare crisis, what will happen to the working, uninsured families that rely on InterFaith Health Clinic?

-What if there was no Boys & Girls Club to offer safe, after-school care to hundreds of our kids?

-What if the Knoxville Volunteer Emergency Rescue Squad wasn’t there to answer the over 2,000 calls they received last year?

-What would hundreds of homebound seniors do without hot, nutritious meals delivered by Mobile Meals?

These programs and dozens like them rely on United Way funds every year.

“We’re now entering our last month of the campaign, and we need the community’s help,” Bert Bertelkamp, 2005 campaign chairman, said. “The people of Knoxville always remember their neighbors in need, and we are counting on them to do it again. Like the support given to the recent hurricane evacuees, this community answers the call whenever and however there is a need.”
