UNITED WAY OF GREATER KNOXVILLE ANNOUNCES COMMUNITY INVESTMENTS
United Way of Greater Knoxville announced today they have raised $11,232,338 for 87.8 percent of their campaign goal of $12.8 million and are continuing fundraising efforts. Campaign officials are asking for the community’s support so that local needs will not go unmet in the coming year. Since the August 30 campaign kickoff, hundreds of volunteers have been canvassing the community to raise support.
“In July, when our goal was established, our purpose was to better serve our community,” Bob Talbott, 2007 campaign chairman said. “Thankfully, thousands have joined us and made their annual contribution. However, we live in a global economy now. Many of our long-time contributors give through national workplace campaigns that won’t be reporting results for a few more weeks. We simply need more time to give those folks a chance to hear about the work being done in our community and make their contribution.”
“Obviously, we can’t stop asking until all of the dollars are in. Leaving over a million dollars in our community on the table is just not possible. There are too many people depending on the services those dollars provide. For over 85 years, United Way has been the way this community cares for the most at-risk children, seniors and families. We feel confident the support is out there. We just need our previous donors to make their pledge again this year and for people who have never given to consider joining them. I am asking for our community to respond as soon as possible. ”
“As the chairman of this year’s campaign, I have been impressed with the number of people who care about this community and volunteer their time or make a donation to help others less fortunate. When all of those gifts are combined, it’s amazing what we can do in Knoxville.”
