UNITED WAY OF GREATER KNOXVILLE TO CELEBRATE HALF-WAY MARK
OF THE ANNUAL CAMPAIGN

Hundreds of United Way of Greater Knoxville's volunteers have been canvassing the community for weeks to reach their $12.5 million goal the most ever raised by the organization in its 84-year history.

United Way will hold its mid-campaign report to the community with a noon luncheon on October 5 at noon at the Foundry on the Fairsite. The campaign will officially end on November 17.

"We are in the final stretch of this year's campaign," Bruce Hartmann, 2006 campaign chairman, said. "This is going to be a hard-fought battle to finish by November 17. I know it is critical to our agencies and the people they serve that we celebrate a victory on the 17th, and we aren't stopping until we get there. I think Knoxville is a great place to live, and I believe that it is because of the generosity and the volunteer spirit of our people. I don't want to walk away from this campaign knowing that help won't be available to anyone who needs it in the coming year because we didn't finish ahead. It's easy to give through United Way. Only a couple of dollars a pay period really adds up and makes a tremendous difference. If you haven't made a pledge yet this year, it's not too late. Please consider making a gift."

Companies that have completed their campaigns since the campaign kicked off on August 29 will be recognized during the luncheon, and United Way will announce current campaign results. Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam will serve as the guest speaker.
