UNITED WAY HOLDS SIXTH ANNUAL "DOWNTOWN FOR UNITED WAY"

"Downtown United for United Way," a special event organized by local downtown businesses to raise funds for United Way of Greater Knoxville's 2006 campaign, will be held on Market Square on Friday, September 29, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. For $5, ticket holders will receive two hot dogs, chips and a drink. Tickets will be available the day of the event. Last year's event drew over 1,500 participants and raised over $9,600 for United Way.

Local celebrity servers including Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam, Bruce Hartmann, President & Publisher of the Knoxville News Sentinel and United Way of Greater Knoxville's 2006 campaign chairman, local radio and television talent, and top management from sponsoring downtown businesses will be serving food throughout the event. Entertainment will be provided by Four Dots and A Dash and will include a special live broadcast of WDVX's Blue Plate Special. In addition, over 20 representatives from the health and human service agency programs supported by United Way will be in attendance with interactive displays.

Sponsors include AmSouth Bank, BankEast, CBID, City of Knoxville, Clayton Bank & Trust, First Tennessee, Home Federal Bank, ImagePoint, Kimberly-Clark Administrative Center, Knox County Schools, Knoxville TVA Employees Credit Union, Knoxville Tourism & Sports Corporation, KUB, Mayfield's, and TVA.
