KNOXTEENSOURCE.COM CONNECTS TEENS WITH COMMUNITY RESOURCES

Soon, a new resource for Knoxville’s teens will be available online as KnoxTeenSource.com, a collaborative project of the Knox County Teen Coalition, is launched on June 21.

The concept for this project grew out of discussions among local youth serving agencies, including United Way of Greater Knoxville, Metropolitan Drug Commission, and American Red Cross, that pointed to the need for a central directory or “clearinghouse” of information for young people in our community.

“Knoxville is fortunate to have a wide variety of services and opportunities available for youth. The problem is they don’t know where to find that information when they need it,” Ben Landers, United Way of Greater Knoxville President & CEO said. “KnoxTeenSource.com addresses that need and makes finding information easy and interactive.”

Designed by teens for teens, the site was created to provide youth with access to information of interest to young people and promises to include news, discussion boards and polls to involve teens in the issues facing our community.  Several entertainment sites will be available links as well.  In addition, young people will be able to find information about employment and volunteer opportunities as well as college admission and scholarship information.  Finally, the “Support” section of the site will link to social services where site visitors can find information on such topics as improving the mental and physical well-being of teens.

KnoxTeenSource.com volunteers will be on hand with more information and give-a-ways at Sundown in the City on June 21 at Market Square.  Click here to learn more or call the United Way of Greater Knoxville.
