UNITED WAY OF GREATER KNOXVILLE BEGINS FUND DISTRIBUTION
United Way announced today the allocations, or fund distribution process, has officially begun.
Throughout the year, nearly 200 volunteers work diligently to visit over 145 health and human service programs funded by United Way. Beginning in late January and continuing throughout February, those same volunteers review funding requests and distribute the money raised during the fall United Way campaign.
“There are many organizations that need our assistance,” Rosalyn Tillman, allocations committee chair, said. “The volunteers’ dedication to the process of assessing need and properly allocating funding is outstanding. The funds distribution arm of the United Way is integral to the overall success of our yearly goal of serving the community. This work could not be done without our volunteers.”
Each United Way community partner is scheduled to present its programs and make requests for funding. Volunteers then review the proposals, conduct site visits and make recommendations based on where they feel the dollars will make the greatest impact. Funding recommendations will be formally approved by United Way’s board of directors and announced at the annual meeting in April.
Thanks to our community’s support, United Way exceeded the goal of $12.5 million, enabling volunteers to have more resources available to meet United Way’s mission of helping people become self-sufficient through programs that address the health needs of our community, focus on building life skills through education, provide basic and emergency services and meet other increasing social service needs.
