United Way - Celebrating 90 Years of Service

Support United Way

United Way volunteers are constantly looking at programs and services designed to make lasting change in our community. A successful United Way funding stream is necessary to fund those programs and the resulting change.

Since 1922, volunteers in Knox County have seen the need for a way to address community needs at the community level. Through an annual campaign, the Community Chest later known as the United Fund and now known as United Way, volunteers have worked together to raise the funds for programs serving important needs in the health and human care arena.

In the 1980s, United Way of Greater Knoxville saw the need to help sister communities with their efforts. They reached out to volunteers in Jefferson County first. Later they helped volunteers in Grainger County. In 2004 that assistance was offered to the United Way of Loudon County. In 2005 Union County volunteers joined forces.

As it was in the beginning, local volunteers raise funds in their community. These funds stay in their community to help their friends, neighbors and family members. It doesn't really matter where the offices are located, or where the staff is housed, what matters is that funds raised in each of these counties stays in these counties.

United Way of Greater Knoxville is making a real difference in the lives of real people. By focusing our community's resources on the most pressing needs, we are able to provide solutions and make a lasting impact right here in Knoxville.

Your contribution, no matter how great or small, makes a difference.

That's the strength of United Way. Combined with the gifts of others, your gift supports a coordinated network of health and human services that are changing lives for at-risk kids, senior citizens, people with disabilities, and many more of your friends and neighbors.

Please consider making a gift or contact us about volunteer opportunities.
