Community Environmental Scan

In 2004 a study of our nine county region provided by The University of Tennessee College of Social Work Office of Research and Public Service (SWORPS) provided a picture of emerging trends and gaps in services. The study compared census data with information obtained through focus groups of social service providers and consumers and household surveys.

You can view the final report of the 2004 study online, which consists of three components.

Since 2004 the information from that compilation has provided a valuable resource for grant applications and presentations and continues to influence needed changes in the health and human services system.

United Way of Greater Knoxville recognizes the importance of accurate data and of continually reviewing local, regional and national trends. It is with this in mind that we asked SWORPS to update the study for Knox County. We believe this current document will provide useful information for future planning and we expect this data will provide direction for the investment of area resources to achieve positive community change.

We are pleased to share this study online as a reference, so that together we can develop resources, partnerships and other collaborations to build a stronger community. The study was divided into two components: The Viewbook and Knox County Demographic Profiles.
